HB:1263: Unrestricted Patient Access to Physical Therapy

More and more Texans seeking alternatives to prescription medication and surgery are choosing physical therapy for the prevention and treatment of conditions affecting movement and function, only to find arbitrary, unnecessary, and costly access barriers. Current law in Texas prohibits patients from going directly to a physical therapist without a referral from a doctor, chiropractor, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.

HB 1263 would save time and money for patients like Harry Lundell by being able to see his physical therapist directly

Currently, there are 44 other states that allow patients to begin physical therapy treatment without a referral. This means 200 million Americans have better access to care than Texans.

It is time to improve patient access for all Texans and remove unnecessary barriers between patients and physical therapists.
